A fatal accident occurred near the Nickelodeon hotel on the road to Playa del Carmen, resulting in the death of a woman. The incident involved a collision between a pickup truck and a van carrying hotel employees.
The accident took place on Federal Highway 307, in the Puerto Morelos-Playa del Carmen section, around 5:30 am. Preliminary reports suggest that the driver of the pickup truck was speeding and may have fallen asleep at the wheel, leading to the collision with the Lipu company van.
The impact caused the van, which was transporting hotel employees to Playa del Carmen, to overturn and veer off the road. Emergency services were promptly notified and arrived at the scene.
Paramedics confirmed the death of a female hotel employee at the scene and reported that an additional 16 people were injured. The injured parties were transported to various local hospitals for medical treatment.
Firefighters from both Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen were instrumental in the rescue efforts. They successfully extricated the driver of the pickup truck, who had been trapped inside the vehicle.
The accident scene was cleared by tow trucks, which moved the wrecked vehicles to a compound. This allowed for the reopening of Federal Highway 307 to ensure smooth traffic flow.
