A fatal incident involving a local resident in a Quintana Roo Police vehicle ignited protests in the Sac-Xan community, where the two detained individuals were from. The community responded with outrage, setting fire to patrol cars and demanding justice.
The road leading to the town of Ribera del Río Hondo was blocked by local residents demanding an investigation into the young man's death.
Two young men from Sac-Xan were arrested on charges of crimes against public order. They were taken to the Ministry of Citizen Security (SSC) in the state capital. Tragically, one of the detainees died while in custody. The circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear.
Residents of Sac-Xan, a community situated on the banks of the Río Hondo, allege that the officers abused their authority, inflicting severe injuries on one of the detainees. This individual later died from these injuries in the state police patrol car.
Witnesses reported seeing an ambulance enter the SSC facilities on Insurgentes Avenue, followed by a vehicle from the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo), where the deceased's body was taken. Despite the lack of official information, residents of Sac-Xan protested against the officers and set fire to a police vehicle. They waited for the police to respond, but no officers arrived, leading them to block the road to the community.
The blockade lasted until dawn, with protesters vowing to continue their road closure until they receive answers about the death of the young man, aged between 19 and 20. They are also demanding the release of the second detainee. As of now, there has been no progress in clarifying the circumstances surrounding this case. Further information is expected in the coming hours.
