A fatal shooting occurred at the exclusive Dreams Lagoon residential complex in Cancún, on La Rioja Avenue, on the night of December 5th. The incident, which took place around 11:00 PM, left one man dead and another seriously injured. The emergency services were alerted to the shooting by a 911 call reporting two men had been shot within the complex. However, the complex's security staff reportedly delayed notifying authorities for 20 minutes in an attempt to manage the situation internally, hindering a swift response from police.
Upon arrival, local police found that the victims, both of Colombian origin, had been shot while inside a vehicle. One man was pronounced dead at the scene, having sustained at least 15 gunshot wounds. The second victim, suffering from four gunshot wounds to the chest, was rushed to the Hospital de Especialidades del Seguro Social in Region 510.
The area was quickly cordoned off by local police, and forensic experts from the State Attorney General's Office were brought in to remove the body and collect evidence. In the aftermath of the shooting, authorities requested access to the complex's security camera footage in an effort to identify the assailants.
The Homicide Prosecutor's Office has since launched an investigation to establish the facts and uncover the motive behind the attack. Further official updates on the progress of the case are expected to be released in the coming hours.
