A fatal shooting occurred at the Taboo beach club in Tulum's coastal region on Wednesday afternoon, leaving one man dead and another injured. Four suspects have been detained in relation to the incident.
The attack unfolded just after 2 p.m., sparking fear among tourists as they saw armed individuals open fire on the victims before making their escape. A 911 call prompted a swift response from security forces.
The state Attorney General's Office reported the arrest of four males, including a minor, in a statement. They are suspected of involvement in what could be classified as "qualified homicide and attempted homicide". The arrested individuals are identified as Manuel de Jesús N., Rodrigo N., Henry Antonio N., and an unnamed minor.
The statement detailed that the attack took place at a bar in the coastal region, resulting in the death of one person and injury of another due to gunshot wounds. Both victims were Mexican nationals and employees of the establishment.
The arrests were made on Tulum Avenue, between Orion South and Beta South streets, after a chase ensued post-crime. The suspects were found in possession of firearms designated for exclusive use by the Army, Navy, and Air Force, suggesting these were likely used in the crime.
The adult suspects and seized evidence have been handed over to the Public Prosecutor's Office, which specializes in homicide crimes. They will determine the legal standing of the suspects within the appropriate legal timeframe. The minor has been turned over to the Prosecutor's Office specializing in crimes committed by adolescents.
This is not the first violent incident to occur at this beach club, situated at kilometer 7 of the Tulum-Boca Paila road. Another man was killed there earlier this year, on August 3rd.
