In a shocking incident, a man and his ten-year-old son were murdered in a convenience store parking lot in Cozumel, Quintana Roo, on Sunday night. The man's daughter was also injured in the attack. The incident occurred at a store situated at the intersection of Zamná Avenue and 75th Street, in the Maravilla neighborhood.

Eyewitnesses reported that the father and his two children were in a white March-type car when armed assailants opened fire on them. The father was in the driver's seat, his son in the passenger seat, and the daughter in the back. The attackers reportedly fired at least ten shots at the car. The father and son were killed instantly, while the daughter sustained a gunshot wound to her leg.

Bystanders noted that it took a private ambulance half an hour to reach the scene. By the time they arrived, the victims were already deceased. The injured girl was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The State Attorney General's Office (FGE) has since announced via social media that it has launched an investigation into the killings. Preliminary findings suggest a possible link to drug trafficking, as the deceased man is believed to have been the leader of a drug gang.

In a related incident, local media reported a van on fire in the early hours of Monday in the Adolfo López Mateos neighborhood. This is suspected to be a retaliatory act for the earlier murders. The fire occurred at 2:00 am at the intersection of 55 Bis Avenue and 5 Sur Street. Firefighters arrived on the scene and extinguished the flames. A gasoline can was found near the vehicle, suggesting it was used to ignite the fire. Unofficial reports suggest that this vehicle may have been used by the murderers of the father and son.
