Fernanda Alvear, a candidate for the municipal presidency of Puerto Morelos from the Fuerza y Corazón coalition, has pledged to effectively promote tourism in the area. Her goal is to boost the local economy and benefit all sectors. Alvear noted that locals are frustrated with officials who attend tourism fairs without achieving any tangible results. "We need concrete actions," she emphasized.
During her visits to local businesses, restaurants, and inns in the city center, Alvear also interacted with residents at the Mercadito square on Joaquín Zetina Avenue. This was her third visit to the square, following explicit invitations from the locals.
Among her key proposals, Alvear highlighted the establishment of a Municipal Tourism Commission. This body will be tasked with managing and executing the tourism promotion budget. The aim is to ensure rigorous follow-up and achieve tangible results. "We will secure the necessary resources to establish the Puerto Morelos brand," she declared.
Alvear pointed out that Puerto Morelos boasts over 18 kilometers of beach, a hotel capacity of 6,387 rooms, and the Cenotes Route with the historic delegations of Central Vallarta and Leona Vicario. "These attractions can satisfy any global tourist segment, but we need proper promotion. We don't just need trips to fairs that result in false assurances while our local economy suffers," she said.
Alvear's proposals also include the complete restoration of the main pier in the tourist area, which was damaged by the hurricanes of 2020. She also plans to maintain the three beachfront piers, which are still awaiting repair by the authorities.
