A fire broke out this afternoon at the Bamba restaurant in Playa del Carmen. The restaurant, situated at the intersection of 12th Street and Fifth Avenue, is in the heart of the city's tourist district.
The fire originated on the restaurant's second floor, in a palapa constructed from local materials. Smoke began to billow from the palapa, prompting staff to immediately dial the emergency services number, 911.
This call sparked a swift response from local emergency services. Firefighters, Civil Protection officers, paramedics, and the Municipal Police all rushed to the scene. The sudden influx of emergency personnel took tourists in the vicinity by surprise.
A section of Fifth Avenue was temporarily closed off for a few hours due to the incident. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. However, Civil Protection officers are currently conducting an investigation to determine what may have triggered the blaze.
