Tragic Monkeypox Death in Quintana Roo Shocks Community

In Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, a 28-year-old Argentine man named Santiago Molina tragically passed away. His death occurred at the General Hospital of Playa del Carmen following a diagnosis of monkeypox.

Reports suggest that Molina's condition was worsened by his status as a carrier of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). This combination resulted in respiratory failure, pleural effusion, residual pneumothorax, and other virus-related complications. These conditions severely exacerbated his symptoms, necessitating the use of a lung probe and other pelvic procedures.

Despite overcoming the initial monkeypox infection, Molina's health did not improve. The medical staff worked tirelessly, but his condition continued to deteriorate.

Molina's mother, Claudia Follin, shared with Argentine media that her son started exhibiting symptoms approximately a month and a half ago. His health took a turn for the worse in recent days, with severe complications appearing in his respiratory system, genital area, and other parts of his body.

The source of Molina's infection remains unknown. Arrangements are being made to repatriate him for his funeral.
