Debate Drama in Chetumal: District 11 Candidates Clash!

The first of 22 debates for District 11 deputy candidates took place in Chetumal, dominated by Renán Sánchez of the "Let's Continue Making History in Quintana Roo" coalition and Perla Tun of the "Force and Heart for Quintana Roo" coalition. The debate, organized by the Electoral Institute of Quintana Roo (Ieqroo), also included candidates from MAS, Juan Carlos Góngora, and from the PRD, Fidel Arturo Ladrón de Guevara.

The candidates addressed public questions on issues such as corruption, transparency, societal and governmental relations, violence against women, and security. They also presented their campaign proposals and interpretations of legislative work.

The debate heated up when Tun and Sánchez discussed the use of funds collected from the Environmental Sanitation Right on the island. Sánchez pointed out that members of PRI and PAN are under investigation and have joined forces to maintain their benefits, emphasizing the official programmes put forward by the current administration.

Tun claimed to be a victim of political violence and questioned Sánchez Tajonar about his campaign when he is on the proportional list. On the topic of violence against women, the PRD candidate suggested harsh punishments for aggressors, while the MAS candidate proposed reducing factors that lead to attacks on women, such as drug addiction and alcoholism.

Regarding security, Sánchez admitted that insecurity is a major concern among District 11 residents in Cozumel and Solidaridad. The MAS candidate suggested empowering religious organizations to counteract violence.

In response to the accusations, the MAS candidate stated that he saw stones being thrown from both sides and warned against idolizing politicians. At the conclusion of the debate, both Sánchez and Tun urged District 11 voters to support them and their municipal presidency candidates.
