Five residents of Cancún, Quintana Roo, made history today by becoming the first citizens to cast their votes ahead of the June 2nd election. This early voting initiative was implemented by the National Electoral Institute (INE) to accommodate individuals with disabilities or illnesses, as well as senior citizens.
The early voting system is designed to uphold the rights of citizens, ensuring their ability to vote, according to Fernando Montañez, a representative of the District Board 4 of the Institute.
A commission made up of electoral councilors, political party representatives, electoral observers, and Montañez visited the homes of seven citizens who had requested to vote early. These individuals were registered on a special list prepared specifically for this voting method.
Out of the seven registered, only five were able to cast their votes. One individual had unfortunately passed away, and another is scheduled to vote on May 20th.
In addition, out of 713 non-sentenced inmates registered on a special list, 651 have been able to cast their votes from prison.
