Joan Serra Montagut, a man of Catalan origin, was arrested this morning by the State Investigation Police (PEI) following accusations of assault and threats against a female café employee. Montagut is also accused of causing damage to the café premises.

The police executed a search warrant at Montagut's residence in Mérida's Historic Center, where they made the arrest. The Yucatan Prosecutor's Office has reported that an indictment hearing will take place today at the Mérida Oral Justice Center (CJOM), where the charges against him will be formally announced.

It's worth noting that a significant police operation was required to detain and transport Montagut due to safety concerns. The case has attracted widespread attention on social media, leading to strong public backlash against Montagut.

A video recording of the incident, widely shared online and in the media, shows Montagut entering the café and engaging in intimidating and verbally abusive behavior towards the woman, while also causing damage to property. The victim alleges that Montagut also threatened her life.

Following the incident, Montagut reportedly remained inside his rented Mérida residence out of fear of public retaliation. He also shut down his social media accounts, where he previously gave lectures on positivity and meditation.
