A foreign tourist was nearly attacked by a group of locals in Celestún, Yucatán, after being accused of sexually harassing a female masseuse. Eyewitnesses reported that the man had asked for a massage, but then began to behave inappropriately towards the woman. Feeling threatened, the masseuse called for help. The accused man left the scene and went to a nearby restaurant.
The local community was outraged by the incident and attempted to take matters into their own hands. Following the complaint, a group of citizens tracked down the accused at the "El Lobo" restaurant. The restaurant owner confirmed the man was just eating, but in an effort to prevent further conflict, he suggested the man turn himself into the authorities.
The local police attempted to protect the foreigner, but were met with resistance from the community. The locals claimed the police had initially failed to act because the accused was a tourist. The situation was eventually resolved when the Secretariat of Public Security stepped in, arresting the accused and taking him to the municipal jail in Celestún.
At the time of the incident, the victim had not yet filed a formal complaint and it was unclear whether legal proceedings against the accused had begun. The incident has caused tension between the local community and authorities.
