A foreign tourist tragically lost his life in the early hours of this morning while in custody at the Tourist Police station in Cancún's Hotel Zone. Preliminary reports suggest the cause of death was natural, possibly a heart attack. However, the Ministerial Police are conducting a thorough investigation to rule out any negligence or abuse of authority.

The circumstances surrounding the man's arrest remain unclear, including the exact location and reason for his detention. What is known is that he was held in a cell at the police station located at kilometer 14.5 of Kukulcán Boulevard.

According to the SMSCyT, the police were called to a local hotel due to a disturbance caused by the now-deceased individual, who was reportedly intoxicated. Initial reports indicate that the tourist suffered a heart attack around 2:00 a.m. Tuesday while still in handcuffs. However, there are conflicting accounts suggesting the man had visible bruises, a detail that has raised concerns and will be a focus of the ongoing investigation.

In a statement, the SMSCyT has committed to a transparent investigation, pledging to clarify the facts in accordance with the law.

Shortly after the man's death, officials from the State Prosecutor's Office arrived to retrieve the body and transport it to the morgue for autopsy. The autopsy will determine whether the man died of natural causes or if other factors contributed to his death.

Authorities have not yet released further details about the case or the identity of the deceased. As uncertainty continues to grow, there are concerns that this incident could spark controversy over the conduct of the Tourist Police in Cancún.
