A foreigner in Yucatán, who damaged a coffee shop in Mérida on February 25, was granted probation on Tuesday, March 18, following a suspended process. This came after he reached an agreement with the victims. The case involved a Spanish man named Joan S. M., who also holds Mexican nationality. He made reparations with Ruth, the barista he assaulted, and the owners of the coffee shop. The proceedings took place at the Oral Justice Center of Mérida (Cejom). The hearing, originally scheduled for 11 a.m. on March 18, was delayed and began shortly after 1 p.m.

From the start, Joan's lawyers aimed to reach an agreement with Ruth, whom he had threatened and yelled at, as well as the coffee shop owners. Joan was initially linked to the case for damaging property, making threats and slander, and was put under preventive detention.

Joan's lawyers sought to end the legal process early through a conditional suspension, following the damages caused at the Mérida coffee shop. Joan, who threatened an employee and damaged the business located on 73rd street between 62 and 64 in the San Juan neighborhood of Mérida, requested a conditional suspension. This involves a series of precautionary measures, including not leaving the state and repairing the damage caused. It's important to note that the victims had to accept the proposed damage repair for this agreement to be reached.

Following the reparative agreement with Ruth and the coffee shop owners, Joan was released from custody on Tuesday.
