SHOCKING: Uber Driver Attacked by Pirate Taxi Drivers!

Several police officers standing behind a police line taped off area at night with patrol cars visible in the background.

An Uber driver was accosted by a group of unauthorized taxi drivers, known as "pirate drivers", at Cancun airport. The rogue drivers tried to force the passengers from the Uber vehicle, accusing the driver of hitting one of their own. The incident unfolded at the airport exit, where the pirate drivers obstructed the Uber driver's route and attempted to remove his passengers. One of the pirate drivers stood in front of the Uber car to prevent it from moving.

A video from the scene shows that National Guard members intervened a short distance away. They blocked the road with a patrol car, forcing the Uber driver to stop and causing significant traffic disruption at the airport exit. After a tense standoff, the Uber driver was allowed to depart. However, the pirate drivers' accusations led to his subsequent arrest.

Águeda Esperilla, a spokesperson for Uber drivers in Cancun, criticized the National Guard for only arresting the Uber driver, despite his vehicle being damaged by the pirate drivers during their attempts to remove his passengers. Esperilla confirmed that there were no injuries from the incident, contradicting the pirate drivers' claims that someone was run over.

Following the incident, the Uber driver was taken to the State Attorney General's Office in the Hotel Zone. His car was impounded and towed away.
