Visitors to Tulum, Quintana Roo, can now enjoy free access to three of its beautiful beaches. This decision was made following a meeting held on February 14th between local residents, the Olmeca Maya Mexica Airport, Railway, Auxiliary Services and Related Group (GAFSACOMM), the National Commission for Protected Natural Areas (Conanp), and the municipal direction of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat).
The agreement includes free entry to two popular beaches located in the Jaguar Park and another one in the hotel zone. The beaches will be conditioned for public use, subject to the same environmental restrictions as other areas, but will be freely accessible to residents of the ninth municipality.
Tatich Ortiz, a local resident who attended the meeting, explained that the discussion lasted for approximately two hours. During this time, the authorities attentively listened to the requests of the locals.
Ortiz also revealed that the additional beach will be situated at the 5-kilometer mark on the Tulum-Boca-Paila road, within the hotel zone. This location will be ideal for holidaymakers wishing to take a dip in the sea.
A record of the meeting was signed and will be shared soon, detailing all the agreed-upon information. However, the highlight of the agreement is the provision of free access beaches for the locals.
Ortiz commented, "We managed to bring together all the institutes involved in the Jaguar National Park and have them listen to our concerns. This is not just about the right to access the beach, but also about our worries regarding the economy and tourism, especially since the high season was too low."
