Esteemed ephemeral art sculptor, José Luis González, is set to host a free sand sculpture workshop for children aged 7 to 13. The event will take place this weekend at Fundadores beach, located in the heart of Playa del Carmen.
The workshop follows González's recent creation of a sand nativity scene on the coastal dunes of Fundadores beach. The workshop is open to children aged between seven and thirteen and is entirely free of charge. Each session will last an hour, with an additional 20 minutes of instruction from González himself.
Those interested can find more information on González's Facebook page, Josse Arenarte. González's work has been endorsed by prominent figures including Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, who has recommended the artist's exhibitions on her social media platforms.
The workshop has a daily capacity of 20 children, and it's required that all participants be accompanied by a parent. González's sand nativity scene, which was completed on Christmas day, is currently on display at Fundadores beach. The exhibition is set to run until January 6th, coinciding with the Three Kings' Day, providing a unique opportunity for families to appreciate this ephemeral art form.
González also revealed plans to transform the sand block into another sculpture and host additional workshops on January 4th, 5th, and 6th, provided his permit is extended. The current nativity scene, which measures nine meters long by three meters high, required approximately 38 tons of sand to construct.
González dedicates this activity to his family, who have supported him in this creative endeavor during one of the most festive times of the year. As a result, Fundadores beach, home to the Maya Portal, has gained an additional attraction, drawing thousands of visitors eager to explore this side of Playa del Carmen.
