The 28th French Film Tour is set to take place in Mérida, featuring outdoor screenings at Habla: The Center for Language and Culture. The event will run from January 30th to February 8th. The tour's seven-film repertoire covers a variety of contemporary topics, spanning genres from comedy to drama.
After its stint in commercial cinemas, the French Film Tour will make a stop at alternative venues like Habla. Here, the films will be screened outdoors, offering a more natural and relaxed viewing environment. The films showcased in the tour are commercially focused but maintain a high standard of quality, reflecting the expressive nature of French cinema.
These films offer intriguing perspectives on a range of deep topics, approached in various ways. They could be comedies addressing historical subjects or dramas dealing with contemporary issues like cancel culture and school bullying.
The majority of the films in this showcase have a comedic tone, but there are also two dramas included. One of these is "Toni and her family" by director Nathan Ambrosioni. This film explores the story of a mother who begins to question her aspirations after her children have grown up.
Another notable film is "A Difficult Year", directed by Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano. This film aims to present a lighter take on the challenging economic times we are currently experiencing.
Other films like "Don’t Make Waves" by Teddi Lussi-Modeste will also be screened. This film encourages viewers to reflect on the circumstances surrounding sexual harassment allegations in settings like schools. Additional films in the lineup explore narratives about lost art pieces, fictional recreations of historical figures' lives, and controversies surrounding surrogacy.
