Digital Infrastructure company GigNet has announced plans to expand its internet coverage across more hotels in Quintana Roo. Currently, the company provides internet access to approximately 30,000 hotel rooms, with agreements in areas such as Puerto Cancún and Puerto Aventuras.

Additionally, GigNet has already installed the first modules of Free Public High-Speed Internet at Playa Delfines and Kilometer 0 of this popular vacation spot. The company estimates that the modules in the municipality of Tulum will be operational within a month. This expansion aims to improve the experience of tourists visiting the Mexican Caribbean and strengthen the region's reputation as a leading tourist destination.

GigNet is also looking to extend its services to Solidaridad or Puerto Morelos. The company is currently in discussions with the State Tourism Secretariat (SEDETUR) to determine the location for a new WIFI module. The goal is to provide coverage in four municipalities of Quintana Roo by 2024. Despite the complexities of this process, GigNet is committed to improving internet access in the region.

In 2023, 40 percent of tourists visiting the Mexican Caribbean were millennials, typically travelling with between 5 and 10 electronic devices. As this demographic is accustomed to constant internet connectivity, the need for expanded coverage in the area is increasingly important.
