Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — In a move to strengthen civic identity and community pride, Playa del Carmen Mayor Estefanía Mercado inaugurated the first Oxxo convenience store featuring the city’s new "Let’s Playa" branding. Located at the northern entrance of the city, the store now displays symbols and colors representing the municipal brand, including the iconic "Ana the Shark" character, as part of a broader strategy to project an organized, vibrant, and distinctive image for the city.

A Vision for Civic Identity

During the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Mercado emphasized that the initiative goes beyond aesthetics. "Today, we are not just presenting a new image—we are showcasing the kind of city we want to build together," she stated. "This façade reflects a deeper goal: to restore order, strengthen our identity, and add value to Playa del Carmen."

The mayor thanked Oxxo for its partnership, highlighting the collaboration between private enterprise, citizens, and government. "When businesses, residents, and government work together, we achieve lasting change. 'Let’s Playa' is more than a brand—it’s a call to live, feel, and share pride in being part of this great destination," Mercado added.

Private Sector Collaboration

Edgar Barrios Muñoz, a representative of Oxxo, praised Mayor Mercado’s leadership and framed the partnership as a commitment to promoting civic pride. "This alliance transcends commerce—it’s an active pledge to celebrate and cherish Playa del Carmen," he said.

The rebranding effort will be rolled out progressively across the municipality, enhancing the visual identity of businesses, public spaces, and roadways. The initiative aligns with the city’s broader urban transformation policies, aiming to foster a stronger, more organized community for residents and visitors alike.

The project follows other municipal efforts, such as Playa del Carmen’s recognition as a state leader in civic justice and peacebuilding under Mercado’s administration. By integrating public and private resources, the city continues to advance its vision of a cohesive, livable, and proudly distinctive community.
