The Mexican Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu) has announced the seizure of several properties in the Quintana Roo region. These properties will be used for the construction of public infrastructure associated with the Mayan Train project.

According to a document dated October 29, 2024, a total of 381,126.589 square meters across 60 private properties will be seized. These properties are located in the states of Quintana Roo, Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, and Yucatán.

In Quintana Roo, 23 private properties will be seized. These properties are spread across the municipalities of Lázaro Cárdenas, Solidaridad, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, and Othón P. Blanco. These lands are necessary for the construction of infrastructure related to the railway project.

In Lázaro Cárdenas, a 20,964 square meter property will be seized. In Solidaridad, 10,195 square meters spread across 12 polygons will be seized, as outlined in Section 5 of the document. In Felipe Carrillo Puerto, three properties totaling 5,474 square meters will be seized, as detailed in Section 6. In Othón P. Blanco, seven properties totaling 4,000 square meters will be seized.

The topographic plans of these properties and the file formed by the declaration will be made available to the public. The seizure will be personally notified to the property owners. If the owners are unknown or their location is uncertain, a second notification will be published.

Property owners will have 15 working days from the notification or the second publication to file any complaints with the Legal Affairs Unit of Sedatu. Upon agreement with the property owners, immediate occupation of the properties will proceed.

It is worth mentioning that in the last two months, the federal government has seized approximately 50 properties in the south of the country to continue with the construction of the Mayan Train project.
