Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa of Quintana Roo was actively involved in disaster management efforts in the state capital, Chetumal, and Mahahual. These areas were on blue alert, indicating minimal danger, during the approach of Hurricane "Sara", which later downgraded to a tropical depression.
Lezama, alongside municipal presidents, military, and federal authorities, visited various parts of the capital city. They responded to citizens who suffered damage from the heavy rains, especially waterlogging at problematic intersections.
The governor closely monitored the storm's progress through updates from the National Water Commission (CONAGUA). The agency promptly reported when "Sara" degraded to a tropical depression upon entering and progressing over Belizean territory.
While in Chetumal, Governor Lezama paid particular attention to the areas identified by residents. She noted the presence of garbage and mud, despite regular dredging efforts. She urged citizens to avoid littering in the streets to prevent waterlogging and to keep drains clear.
Lezama and her team, which included representatives from the Municipal Public Services, the Secretariat of Ecology and Environment (SEOP), the Potable Water and Sewerage Commission (CAPA), CONAGUA, Civil Protection, and the Naval and Defense forces, responded to citizens' reports from both Mahahual and Chetumal.
The team addressed a significant waterlogging issue on March 4th street with Juan José Siordia. During the tour, they confirmed that units from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) were patrolling the region to handle any contingencies.
In Mahahual, the team assisted residents in the neighborhoods of Costa Maya, Arrecifes, Casita, and New Creation colonies. They also distributed groceries to families who requested them in the Center, La Bendición, Costera, Río Indio, Km 55, and Arrecifes.
