Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has awarded 20 credits totaling 1 million 55 thousand pesos to entrepreneurs and small businesses across Quintana Roo, with 60% of the funds designated for women. The financing, provided through programs administered by the Secretariat of Economic Development (SEDE), will support the creation of nine new businesses and the expansion of 11 existing ones.

Empowering Entrepreneurs Across Municipalities

The credits were distributed to beneficiaries from Felipe Carrillo Puerto, José María Morelos, Othón P. Blanco, Benito Juárez, Bacalar, Playa del Carmen, and Cozumel. The initiative, backed by the Quintana Roo Financing Fund (FOFINQROO), reflects the state’s commitment to fostering economic growth and gender equity.

Governor Lezama emphasized the significance of the program, stating, “Behind every business, there’s a story of struggle, of hearing ‘you won’t make it’ time and again. Each person receiving a credit today proves that in Quintana Roo, success is possible.” She was joined by Verónica Lezama Espinosa, honorary president of DIF Quintana Roo, who reaffirmed the administration’s support for entrepreneurs under its “humanist government with a feminist heart.”

Breakdown of Financial Support

The credits were allocated across four programs:

  • Crédito Emprendo por Quintana Roo: Two checks of 35,000 pesos each.
  • Crédito Unidas Emprendiendo: Seven checks of 35,000 pesos each.
  • Crédito Transforma tu PYME: Ten checks of 70,000 pesos each.
  • Crédito Marca Hecho en Quintana Roo: One check of 40,000 pesos.

Faustina Margarita Puc Arceo, owner of Cocina Buen Día, shared her experience as a repeat beneficiary, having successfully managed prior financing over her 11 years in business.

Broader Economic Impact

Paul Carrillo de Cáceres, Secretary of Economic Development, reported that between 2022 and 2025, the state has granted 320 credits worth 17 million 556 thousand pesos, with 66% going to women. Notably, 80% of the funds have been directed to the southern region, including Othón P. Blanco, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Bacalar, and José María Morelos, totaling 13 million 985 thousand pesos.

For 2025, the state has authorized an additional 6 million 220 thousand pesos to support over 100 local businesses, surpassing the total investment of the previous administration in this sector. Seven credits worth 280,000 pesos were already disbursed in January and February, followed by the 20 credits awarded in March for ventures ranging from beauty salons and grocery stores to bakeries and coffee roasters.

Event Attendees

The ceremony included Othón P. Blanco Mayor Yensunni Martínez Hernández, who delivered welcoming remarks; State Congresswoman María José Osorio Rosas, chair of the Planning and Economic Development Commission; and beneficiaries Faustina Margarita Puc Arceo and Alfredo Chan Caamal.

The initiative aligns with the New Agreement for the Wellbeing and Development of Quintana Roo, aiming to boost local consumption and ensure shared prosperity from the state’s tourism success.
