The Mayor of Isla Mujeres, Atenea Gómez Ricalde, recently led a group of biologists, environmentalists, veterinarians, and municipal authorities in laying the first stone for the new Animal Wellness Center. This project demonstrates the community's commitment to the welfare of the island's smaller creatures.
The new facility will provide a safe haven for pets living on the streets, offering them protection and care. The project, which promotes the care and respect for pets, is a collaborative effort with environmentalists who have long advocated for animal welfare on Isla Mujeres. The laying of the first stone marks a significant step forward in promoting animal welfare and education about animal care.
The Isla Mujeres Animal Wellness Center aims to address the issue of stray animals while also offering free services such as adoption, vaccination, sterilization, deworming, and veterinary consultation.
The center will be situated on Perimetral Poniente Avenue, adjacent to the Anticyclonic Shelter. The two-story building will feature a reception area, adoption room, medical area, cages, grooming area, and garden. It will also include parking for authorized personnel and the public, an administrative area, bathrooms, and stairs.
