New Guidelines Revealed for Foatqroo Tourism Investments

With the establishment of the Trust for the Strengthening of the Tourist Activity in Quintana Roo (Foatqroo), entrepreneurs are set to play a significant role. This trust will be tasked with the upkeep, management, and preservation of tourism initiatives in the region.

The president of the Caribbean Business Coordinating Council, Eduardo González Martínez, emphasized that the trust has its own revenue and expenditure. Currently, they are developing guidelines for investment and maintenance that won't rely solely on the trust's natural income.

The Official Newspaper of Quintana Roo reported that Foatqroo will oversee the Comprehensive Tourist Project of Cozumel (PIT Cozumel) and Cancun's hotel zone, with a budget of 155 million 731 thousand 153 pesos for this year. Additionally, they anticipate collecting 400 million pesos next year from cruise ship passenger fees. Each tourist arriving at the ports of Mahahual and Cozumel will contribute five dollars.

Gino Segura Vazquez, the Secretary of Finance and Planning, stated that the cruise ship passenger tax would significantly boost the tourist infrastructure and port security. It will also contribute to a natural disaster fund in Quintana Roo. This tax, agreed upon with international shipping companies, aims to enhance investment in the state's tourism sector.
