From Tuesday through Friday, Quintana Roo is expected to experience heavy rainfall due to the interaction of several weather systems. This forecast was issued by the State Civil Protection Coordination.
The predicted rainfall is expected to be accompanied by strong winds, electrical storms, and high waves. Residents are therefore advised to take necessary precautions. This weather pattern is attributed to the 25th tropical wave moving over the Yucatan Peninsula, combined with a monsoon trough and three areas of low pressure with cyclonic potential. Two of these areas are in the South Pacific and one is in the western Caribbean Sea. Rainfall is expected to range between 150 and 250 mm during this period, potentially causing waterlogging and possible flooding in low-lying or uneven areas.
Authorities have advised residents to avoid driving in flooded or waterlogged areas, to keep roofs, drains, and nearby sewers clean, to check the safety of structures such as billboards and unstable roofs, and to stay updated with official weather bulletins. The maritime authority, Harbor Captaincy, has also issued a warning for those involved in sea activities to exercise extreme caution due to the predicted strong winds and high waves along the coast of Quintana Roo and the Yucatan Channel.
Currently, the area of low pressure in the Southwest Caribbean Sea has a 10% chance of cyclonic development in the next 48 hours and a 40% chance in the next seven days. This system is located 1,100 km southeast of Chetumal. Although it does not pose an immediate threat, authorities are closely monitoring its progress. Another area of low pressure, located south of the Cape Verde Islands, has increased its cyclonic potential to 60% in 48 hours and 90% in the next seven days. Despite being distant from Quintana Roo, this system is slowly moving westward.
