Yesterday, an unexpected and prolonged downpour lasting over six hours resulted in severe flooding in the Dos Aguadas community. Homes were completely inundated, leaving families in distress.
Tomasa Uc, a local resident, reported that water seeped into her home overnight while she and her three children were asleep. She pointed out that this is a recurring issue every rainy season, often worsened by runoff from the neighboring state of Campeche. Due to the flood, she now has to seek shelter at a relative's house, as the floodwater can take up to a week to recede.
Other community members also reported significant damage to their homes. Some lost their livestock, while others had their furniture ruined. The heavy rainfall has rendered the streets impassable, despite previous attempts to improve the drainage system, which has only been successful in some areas.
The affected families are urgently appealing to authorities to dispatch vector control teams. They are concerned about the surge in mosquito population that could potentially pose health risks to their children and the elderly.
