The Mexican Association of Inbound Travel Agencies (Amatur) has proposed that rehabilitation work on federal highway 307 should be conducted at night to avoid disrupting tourists. Highway 307, which runs from Cancun to Tulum, is a major route for tourist traffic.

Sergio González Rubiera, the president of Amatur, expressed gratitude for the repair work being done on the highway, which is currently in poor condition. He highlighted not only the state of the pavement and the numerous dangerous potholes, but also the inadequacy of the highway's four lanes. He pointed out issues such as overgrown vegetation encroaching on some sections, poor signage, and an excess of billboards, which he suggested should be completely removed.

In a letter to the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT), Rubiera explained that daytime repairs, particularly during peak hours, result in traffic chaos and inconvenience for tourists. He mentioned instances of vacationers missing their flights due to the traffic delays caused by the roadwork. In one case, a group of tourists arrived late at the airport and missed a weekly charter flight, resulting in the operating agency having to cover the cost of accommodation and new tickets.

Rubiera stated, "This is generating significant traffic chaos, with kilometer-long lines that take up to two hours to navigate for just a few kilometers. In addition to the enormous annoyance and disruptions for hundreds of motorists and tour operators, these delays are causing tourists to miss their flights."

To prevent further impact on the tourism industry, Amatur suggests that repairs to the Cancun-Tulum highway be conducted at night. This proposal was also sent to the federal Secretary of Tourism, the Undersecretary of Infrastructure of the SICT, the governor, the Secretary of Tourism of Quintana Roo, and the head of the SICT in the state.
