Hiring Now: Lifeguards Needed for Cancún Summer Beach Season

As the summer holiday season kicks off, the Civil Protection Directorate of Benito Juárez is looking to hire 10 lifeguards to ensure the safety of swimmers at the public beaches of Cancún. Johann Alejandro Hendricks Interian, the acting head of the department, stated that this temporary hiring is a regular occurrence each holiday season, typically lasting between one and a half to two months, depending on the length of the season.

These new hires will join the existing team of 18 lifeguards, four paramedic teams, a supervisor, and a head of safety and rescue. Together, they are responsible for the safety of visitors at Cancún's 11 public beaches.

Interian emphasized that all lifeguards are equipped with the necessary gear for their duties, including fins, rescue buoys, torpedoes, uniforms, and rescue boards. They also have access to two quad bikes for patrolling the municipality's coastal area.

The recruitment drive for temporary lifeguards will remain open throughout the holiday season. It is open to those with prior experience and training in lifeguard duties. Applicants must also adhere to safety standards and can expect a bi-weekly salary of approximately 7,000 pesos.

In addition to the 20 Civil Protection personnel and four paramedic teams, the department also collaborates with the National Guard, the Secretariat of the Navy, Public Services, the Directorate of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone, and the Firefighters department to ensure the safety of beachgoers.
