The residence of William Bastarrachea, the Municipal Undersecretary of Citizen Security in Playa Del Carmen, was shot at by unidentified individuals. The attack, which occurred in the El Pedregal district, resulted in bullet damage to the front of the house.

The incident took place around 8:00 p.m. Residents of the district, living on 42nd Street and 60th Avenue, reported hearing several gunshots and promptly alerted the authorities via 911.

Initial reports suggest that at least two individuals on a motorcycle approached Bastarrachea's house and opened fire before fleeing in an unknown direction. The reason behind the attack remains unclear, but authorities have not ruled out the possibility that it could be a warning from a criminal group aimed at the deputy police chief.

Local police were the first to arrive at the scene, where they discovered approximately 10 firearm shell casings. Thankfully, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

The police are currently investigating the event and working to identify the individuals responsible for the attack. The area around the house was temporarily closed off for investigations.
