Hurricane Kirk has been upgraded to a Category 4 storm, raising concerns for potentially dangerous surf and wave conditions across the eastern U.S. coast, Bermuda, the Greater Antilles, and the Bahamas this weekend. This report comes from the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

Kirk is currently situated in the heart of the Atlantic Ocean and could potentially intensify over the next 24 hours. However, it is expected to remain offshore. The initial swell is predicted to hit the northern Windward Islands on Friday, followed by Bermuda and the Greater Antilles on Saturday. By Sunday, it should reach the eastern U.S. coast and the Bahamas.

Despite the storm's intensity, there are currently no active warnings or alerts for coastal areas. Kirk is approximately 1,745 km (1,085 miles) east-northeast of the Windward Islands, sustaining winds of 215 km/h (130 mph).

In related news, Tropical Storm Leslie has formed in the Eastern Atlantic. It could potentially develop into a hurricane in the coming days, though it is not currently posing a threat to coastal areas. Leslie is located 930 km (580 miles) south of Cape Verde, with winds of 85 km/h (50 mph).
