The José María Iturralde and Traconis Theater in Valladolid recently hosted the inaugural "I Have a Dream" festival. This event welcomed children and young people from two cultural groups, the Creative Seedlings from Yucatán and Quintana Roo.
The festival, themed "The Mayab and its roots", was organized by the Federal Ministry of Culture, in conjunction with the Community Culture program and the governments of Yucatán and Quintana Roo. This event is one of 27 state and inter-state events taking place across the country as part of the I Have a Dream 2024 Festival.
At the festival, Mexico's Secretary of Culture, Alejandra Frausto Guerrero, emphasized the inclusivity of the event, which brought together everyone from young artists to craftspeople. She highlighted that this festival represents the current government's focus on communities that have previously been overlooked and marginalized. The event showcased the cultural richness and diversity of each region in the country.
"The power of culture will reach far and wide. This effort, which began years ago in Guerrero with the first Renaissance Orchestra, has now become a national project deeply rooted in the initial phase of the fourth transformation," Guerrero said.
She further noted, "We have the opportunity to witness the first fruits of the Original Seedbed. Here, two projects we cherish, Creative Seedlings and Original, unite. Original is our movement against plagiarism, protecting the extraordinary creations of the Mexican people. This vibrant cultural movement is alive and strong, and it's up to all of us to nurture it."
The Creative Seedlings are groups that offer free artistic training for children and young people across the country. They encourage participation in the arts, critical thinking, and the role of cultural agents. This initiative is promoted by the Office of Cultural Connections of the Federal Ministry of Culture.
