Residents of Tihosuco in Felipe Carrillo Puerto have discovered that their precious forest reserve is being targeted by illegal loggers. The forest, located on the former Xcaña Brava hacienda, has been significantly damaged. Paulino Pat, the community's Ejidal Commissariat President, stated that the exact number of trees felled or the volume of wood damaged has not been determined. However, the value of the timber found at the extraction site exceeds 30 thousand pesos.

The forest reserve spans more than 10 hectares. The community members have identified an access point used by the illegal loggers. They are now preparing to investigate this area and determine whether other parts of the reserve have been affected. In the initial discovery, they seized cedar planks left behind by the loggers. Unfortunately, the perpetrators had already fled the scene, leaving the community members to confiscate the remaining timber.

In response to this situation, the community's governing body plans to take action against the alleged illegal loggers. They intend to file complaints with the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (PROFEPA), as the targeted trees were located within a historic reserve.

Over 40 community members took part in the initial response, quickly mobilizing to the area in an attempt to stop the loggers. However, they arrived too late, finding only processed planks left behind. This incident has prompted the community to increase their vigilance over their land. They fear that others may attempt to exploit their beautiful forest for profit. The community is calling on the authorities for support, asking them to help protect their land from further illegal activities.
