The Mobility Institute of Quintana Roo (IMOVEQROO) has issued a statement regarding a recent incident at Kukulkán Plaza, located in Cancún's hotel zone. The altercation involved a taxi driver from the Andrés Quintana Roo union, who was allegedly driving vehicle number 3562.
Eyewitness accounts and video evidence indicate that the taxi driver and a driver from a digital platform engaged in a physical fight. The digital platform driver reportedly threatened the taxi driver with a weapon.
In response to this incident, IMOVEQROO has taken swift action, reinforcing its zero-tolerance policy towards violence and harm to passengers in any form of transportation. "We have initiated an investigation into this case. The Institute will not tolerate any aggression or violence from drivers in public or private transport services," stated Rodrigo Alcazar Urrutia, the General Director of IMOVEQROO.
Once the drivers involved are identified, the offending driver's license will be revoked, and the concession cancelled. The digital platform permit holder will also face penalties, as per articles 198 section III, clause C, and articles 199, 200, 201, and 202 of the Quintana Roo Mobility Law. This will occur while a comprehensive investigation of the incident is underway.
IMOVEQROO will also coordinate with Public Security authorities to maintain order and safety in tourist areas. "Our aim is to ensure all transport services in the state operate within a framework of respect, legality, and safety for all users," said Urrutia.
IMOVEQROO is committed to enhancing road safety and ensuring the quality of transport services, in line with the legal framework of the Quintana Roo Mobility Law. Urrutia reiterated his commitment to safety, legality, and quality in transportation services in Quintana Roo, pledging to take all necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
