INAH Unions Rally Against Mayan Train Heritage Destruction

The Scientific Research and Teaching Professors Union and the Restorers Union from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) have publicly voiced their disapproval over attempts to penalize Fernando Cortés de Brasdefer. Brasdefer is an archaeologist affiliated with the INAH who has reported alleged destruction of archaeological heritage due to the construction of the Mayan Train.

The unions have sent letters to President Claudia Sheinbaum and Federal Secretary of Culture, Claudia Curiel, urging them to end the harassment of Brasdefer. They argue that the actions against him are an infringement on his human and labor rights.

In a separate letter, the unions are encouraging INAH workers to show their support for Brasdefer. They suggest displaying signs with supportive messages and attending a rally. The rally is scheduled for 12 PM tomorrow at the main INAH offices, located at Hamburgo 135, Juárez neighborhood, Mexico City.
