A diverse group of international visitors and residents have come together to form a pickleball club in Playa del Carmen. Pickleball, a sport similar to tennis, is quickly gaining popularity among tourists and locals alike. Players regularly meet at the Poliforum to enjoy the game. The distinctive sound of the light ball, reminiscent of a tennis ball, has piqued the interest of local athletes and residents.
Jeffrey Blake, a key advocate for pickleball in Playa del Carmen, estimates that around 3,700 people worldwide participate in this sport. There are several clubs in Mexico where newcomers can learn how to play. Pickleball is particularly popular in the United States and Canada.
The international pickleball players in Playa del Carmen are not only interested in promoting the sport but also in fostering a sense of community and social responsibility. They have been making donations to support the education of local children. Over the past three years, the club has donated 120,000 pesos to the community. They are also working towards establishing a pickleball academy for children in the city.
