The International Tulum Airport, also known as the "Felipe Carrillo Puerto" Airport, recently celebrated its first anniversary. Quintana Roo's Governor, Mara Lezama Espinosa, expressed her delight at the airport's success during the past year.
In her speech, she noted that the airport has surpassed all expectations, becoming the second busiest in the state in terms of passenger movement. As of November 21, the airport recorded over 1.074 million passengers and 8,500 air operations, and these numbers continue to grow.
Governor Lezama reflected on the airport's inauguration a year ago, which was a significant milestone for the region. The International Air Transport Association had initially projected 700,000 passengers in the airport's first year. However, the combined effort, vision, and commitment of everyone involved led to a significant increase in passenger flow. Lezama expressed optimism that these numbers could increase even more by the end of the year.
The International Tulum Airport serves not only as a gateway to the wonders of the Mexican Caribbean but also as a crucial link between the southern part of the state and the rest of the world. The airport has seen a monthly passenger growth of 13.1% and currently operates with 11 airlines offering flights to 15 domestic and international destinations.
Among the airlines serving the airport are Aeromexico, Viva Aerobús, and Mexicana de Aviación, which connect travelers to the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA). The airport also offers international flights to destinations such as New York, Miami, and Toronto.
In December, four new airlines will be added, further strengthening the connectivity of the Mexican Caribbean. Air Transat, Discover Airlines, Avianca, and Volaris will extend their routes to Montreal, Frankfurt, Bogota, and Guadalajara, respectively.
Governor Lezama concluded her speech by emphasizing that the airport's success is a collective achievement. She stated, "This progress means more jobs, more economic development, and more opportunities for the families in our region." The government continues its efforts to connect dreams and create a story of transformation from the heart of the Mexican Caribbean.
