An investigation has uncovered a series of scams targeting tourists at the Nickelodeon Riviera Maya Hotel in Quintana Roo. The scams, allegedly carried out by hotel employees, have affected dozens of domestic and international tourists. Both Mexican authorities and the U.S. FBI have confirmed the recurring scams, suggesting the possible involvement of high-ranking hotel executives and a notorious criminal gang.
The scam involves the fraudulent sale of vacation packages at the Nickelodeon Riviera Maya Hotel and Resorts. The findings indicate the presence of organized crime within the tourism industry in Quintana Roo. Top executives of the resorts and Grupo Lomas, the company that owns the hotel, are accused of turning a blind eye to the scams perpetrated using their hotel's brand.
This case is particularly alarming as it may be just one of many fraud cases targeting Mexican citizens and international tourists, especially those from the United States. This has prompted an investigation by the FBI.
The investigation was prompted by the experience of a family from Jalisco. In February, they deposited $53,862.00 into the account of KARISMA HOTELS & RESORTS BENEFICIOS as an advance payment for a Christmas vacation at the Riviera Maya's luxurious Nickelodeon Hotel.
Karisma claims on its website to operate several hotels, including Nickelodeon Hotels and Resorts in Riviera Maya and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Other properties include Margaritaville Island Riviera Maya, Margaritaville Island Riviera Cancun, Azul Villa Casa del Mar Gourmet Inclusive and Azul Beach Resort Negril Gourmet Inclusive in Jamaica. The company also offers wedding organization services.
