Isla Mujeres, with its stunning beaches, continues to be a top choice for tourists visiting the Mexican Caribbean. Playa Norte and Playa Centro are the most frequented, attracting thousands of visitors from all over the world.
These beaches owe their popularity to ongoing cleaning and conservation efforts aimed at preserving and enhancing their quality. During the final days of the Holy Week holiday period, Isla Mujeres reported nearly 90% hotel occupancy. Thousands of domestic and international tourists flocked to the island to enjoy its beautiful turquoise waters, delicious cuisine, and a variety of recreational activities.
Last Wednesday, an inspection was conducted at Playa Centro and Playa Norte to ensure they meet the quality and sustainability standards set by Blue Flag. If the beaches pass the inspection, they will be eligible to fly the Blue Flag emblem starting in July.
Local authorities emphasize that preserving these spaces not only boosts the island's tourism industry but also positively impacts the local economy. At the recent Tianguis Turístico 2024 event in Acapulco, Guerrero, Playa Norte was ranked among the top 10 best beaches in Mexico and the world. Costa Mujeres also made the list of Best Destinations in Mexico.
