The Municipal Government of Isla Mujeres, under the leadership of Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde, is hosting the 20th annual International Sports Fishing Tournament. This event, named after Cosme Alberto Martínez Magaña, is a cherished tradition on the island.
The inaugural ceremony was held in the Cabildo Room, attended by local, state, and federal officials, as well as representatives from the private sector and sports fishing experts. This committee is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the tournament, ensuring a well-organized and transparent event that instills confidence in both participants and sponsors.
Hernán Magaña Vargas, the Director of Economic Development, emphasized the tournament's significance for the island's economy. The previous tournament attracted 88 boats and generated an economic impact of over 10 million pesos, benefiting local tourism service providers. This year, they anticipate even greater participation, further establishing Isla Mujeres as a premier destination for sport fishing.
The committee includes representatives from various institutions such as the Port Captaincy, the Navy Secretariat, the State Fishing Cooperatives Federation, and the Secretariat of Agricultural, Rural, and Fishing Development. They will collaborate to ensure adherence to tournament rules and participant safety.
With this event, the Isla Mujeres government continues to demonstrate its commitment to economic and tourism development. The tournament remains a significant event in sport fishing circles, both nationally and internationally.
