Over the weekend, when the demand for boat rides and nautical tourism activities typically peaks, the Isla Mujeres Port Authority decided to suspend navigation for boats under 40 feet in length due to unfavorable weather forecasts.

There is a high likelihood that navigation for vessels longer than 40 feet will also be suspended from noon onwards. This is due to forecasts predicting southeast winds ranging from 28 to 37 km/h, gusts from 46 to 56 km/h, and waves reaching heights of 2.1 to 2.7 meters. These conditions are expected to persist for the next 24 to 48 hours.

As of 6:00 AM on Saturday, the Port Authority announced the suspension of navigation for boats under 40 feet in length. This suspension affects all types of nautical tourism activities, coastal fishing, and trips to Contoy Island.

Should the closure extend to vessels over 40 feet in length from noon onwards, the nautical community will be informed throughout the morning. As of now, navigation remains open only in the Makax lagoon and Mujeres Bay for the ferry passenger service. Mixed cargo and passenger ferries traveling from Isla Mujeres to Puerto Juarez/Cancun/Punta Sam and vice versa are also allowed to operate, subject to prevailing weather conditions.

The Port Authority has advised captains and crews of tourist boats over 40 feet in length and route boats to exercise caution. They have also urged the general nautical community to stay updated on weather reports and announcements by tuning into VHF radio channel 16/12.
