Island Women Unite to Fight Breast Cancer

Women from the island community have once again united to show their support for those courageously battling breast cancer. This show of solidarity took place during the Pink Breakfast with a Cause event, organized by the municipal government led by Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde, through the Municipal Women's Office.

The event was held at the Sport Bar Ruta 15, located in the Posada del Mar hotel. It forms part of a broader campaign titled "Give Yourself a Hand," initiated by Mayor Ricalde. The campaign aims to promote early detection and prevention of breast cancer.

Attendees of the Pink Breakfast enjoyed a meal together and heard the testimony of Yulan Feng Novelo Celis, a woman currently undergoing breast cancer treatment. They also participated in an activity called Clothesline, where they wrote positive messages for those battling the disease.

Mayor Ricalde expressed her gratitude to the women who attended the Pink Breakfast with a Cause. She emphasized that the funds raised from the event would be used to support women receiving breast cancer treatment. She also highlighted the central role of women in her government's decision-making process and reiterated her commitment to their health and well-being.

Ricalde stressed the importance of early detection of the disease. She encouraged women on the island aged between 40 and 69 to avail of free mammograms this month, as part of the "Give Yourself a Hand" campaign.
