The Tourist Police department in Izamal will be dissolved this month, according to a decision made by the city council. This move, led by the city's controversial mayoress, Melissa Puga, leaves a significant gap in tourist services and local business support.

Puga's lack of experience is said to have influenced her decision to disband this crucial department. Despite Izamal's status as a Magic Town and its consistent influx of tourists, the current municipal administration has chosen to dismantle the Tourist Police. This force has, for years, provided essential guidance and services to visitors.

The information modules and areas that have been operational for over three years and have provided assistance are now closed. Since the beginning of Puga's administration, these facilities have remained unstaffed.

The disbandment of the Tourist Police has caused concern among locals and business owners. Many are questioning the reasoning behind this decision, with some speculating that it could be more of a political vendetta than a strategic move.

It's worth noting that the Tourist Police department was established during the tenure of the late former mayor, José Miguel Rodríguez Asaf. His term was marked by significant strides in promoting and protecting tourism in Izamal.
