Residents of Benito Juarez municipality in Cancun, Quintana Roo, have taken to social media to report sightings of two jaguars wandering the city streets. Locals claim that the wild animals have been entering homes and attacking pets and other small creatures they come across. As a result, they are calling for authorities to intervene and relocate the jaguars, fearing they could pose a threat to people.

Social media users have shared footage, captured by security cameras, of the jaguars prowling what looks like a residential backyard. In the video, a small dog inside the property is seen barking at the jaguars, who then leap onto its cage and start clawing at it, attempting to reach the dog.

The first video ends before the jaguars manage to harm the dog. However, a follow-up video reveals the dog's lifeless body, confirming that the jaguars succeeded in killing the pet. Recognizing the potential danger, the residents of Benito Juarez municipality are urging authorities to return the jaguars to their natural habitat and keep them away from populated areas, before they potentially attack humans.

In light of the situation in Cancun, some have pointed out that sightings of wild animals in urban areas are likely to become more common. This is similar to the occurrence of bears appearing in the state of Nuevo Leon, as habitat destruction forces them to seek food in cities.

Social media comments on the incident include: "What did they expect, they left them homeless and without food (referring to the jaguars)"; "They displaced them from their habitat and now they wander close to the towns"; "Normal: they're destroying their habitat and they'll go where they can find food"; "we took their habitat, their chance to feed, and ultimately took their lives".
