Jenny and the Mexicats, known for their unique blend of rockabilly, jazz, flamenco, and reggae, are all set to light up the stage at Plaza Grande tonight during the White Night event. The band, featuring English singer Jenny Ball, Spanish musician David González Bernardos, and Mexican artists Icho and Pantera Mexicat, will kick off their performance at midnight.
The band members expressed their excitement about returning to Mérida. They've always had a great time during their previous visits and are looking forward to tonight's performance. This marks the fourth time the band will be performing in Yucatán. Originally known as Pachucos and the Princess, they rebranded as Jenny and the Mexicats in 2012 and released a self-titled album that went Gold in Mexico. The band plans to perform a retrospective of their discography in Mérida.
Jenny shared, "We'll be playing a mix of everything – all our hits and a selection from our entire 16-year career. We've been creating music and touring the world since 2008, and we have a lot to share." Fans can expect to hear some of the band's most iconic songs, including "Verde más allá" and "Me voy a ir".
The band promises a lively, energetic show that will feature a range of their signature sounds. "Expect to hear cumbia, flamenco, and more. We're preparing a show that will get everyone dancing, complete with a full band and special effects."
Regarded as one of the top bands in the "world music" genre, the Mexicats attribute part of their success to the diverse folk influences they bring from their respective countries – Spain, England, and Mexico. They believe this unique mix of folklore resonates with people.
The band has remained true to their original style since their inception. They believe their music's rhythmic folklore appeal has been a key factor in captivating audiences of all ages.
"Our music is for everyone. It touches on many aspects of life. We're an emotional band that loves to experiment with different rhythms and tell stories through our songs," Jenny added.
Jenny and the Mexicats are also gearing up for the release of their new album, "Wake me up when we become famous". The album features a dozen tracks and will be promoted through a tour spanning Europe, Mexico, and the United States.
