On June 2, the citizens of Yucatán signaled their desire for significant change in their state by casting an unprecedented number of votes for Joaquín “Huacho” Díaz Mena. With a total of 628,845 votes, Huacho has made history as the governor-elect with the highest vote count in Yucatán's history.
Huacho secured 51.2 percent of the electorate's preference, leading his closest competitor by a significant margin of 114,539 votes. This victory has simultaneously solidified the second phase of the Fourth Transformation movement, a political shift also signaled by the election of Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum in Yucatán.
Citizens have shown their support for the consolidation of the Fourth Transformation in Yucatán by choosing a leader who is close to the next president of Mexico, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. Huacho has confirmed his commitment to work closely with her to build a state that promotes wellbeing and shared prosperity for all.
The historic number of votes Huacho received in the 2024 elections is a clear indication of public support for his leadership. He is set to assume office at the Government Palace on October 1st, carrying the responsibility of honoring this support with an integrity-driven effort to benefit all Yucatán residents.
Huacho's victory is part of a larger wave of success for the "Let’s Continue Making History" coalition. The coalition also secured victories for Senate candidates Verónica Camino Farjat and Jorge Carlos Ramírez Marín, and elected Federal Deputies Rocío Natalí Barrera Puc, Jorge Luis Sánchez Reyes, Óscar Iván Brito Zapata, Jazmín Yaneli Villanueva Moo, and Jessica Saidén Quiroz.
In celebration of his victory, Díaz Mena has invited citizens to join him on Sunday, June 9, at the IEPAC facilities to receive his majority certificate as the governor-elect of the state of Yucatán.
