The Fourth Mexican Caribbean Gastronomic Festival Returns to Bacalar in March 2025

The vibrant culinary traditions of the Mexican Caribbean will once again take center stage as the Fourth Mexican Caribbean Gastronomic Festival arrives in Bacalar, Quintana Roo, on March 8 and 9, 2025. Organized by the Gastronomy Promotion Committee of Quintana Roo and the Bacalar City Council, this event is a celebration of the region’s rich culinary and cultural heritage, offering visitors an unforgettable experience.

A Feast for the Senses in Bacalar

This highly anticipated festival will bring together the twelve tourist destinations of the Mexican Caribbean, showcasing their culinary diversity and traditions. Attendees can look forward to indulging in a variety of offerings, including traditional Mayan dishes, organic farm produce, edible aromatic plants, ornamental selections, and a wide array of handcrafted goods from local artisans.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Bacalar’s famous Laguna de Siete Colores (Lake of Seven Colors), the event will be held at General Ángel Remigio Rosado Park, located on 5th Avenue between 20th and 22nd streets. The festival promises a blend of gastronomy, music, and crafts, creating an immersive cultural experience for visitors of all ages.

Entry to the festival is free, but attendees must register in advance and adhere to the event’s guidelines. Local participation is a key focus, with space reserved for up to thirty local exhibitors to showcase their products over the two-day event. Participants are required to pay a refundable $200 deposit, which will be returned a week after the festival, and contribute 5% of their sales to socio-environmental initiatives aimed at supporting sustainable development in the region.

Building on the Success of Previous Editions

The Mexican Caribbean Gastronomic Festival has grown in popularity and significance since its inception, with each edition highlighting a different municipality.

  • The third edition, held in Puerto Morelos in 2024, attracted over 2,000 daily visitors, offering 35 gastronomic experiences, 50 artisan exhibitors, and 19 producers. The event, inaugurated by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, showcased the culinary diversity of Quintana Roo, from local specialties to contemporary interpretations of traditional dishes.
  • The second edition took place in Playa del Carmen in 2023, where visitors were treated to an array of authentic flavors and vibrant cultural presentations.
  • The inaugural festival, hosted in Puerto Juárez, set the stage for what has become a cornerstone event in the region’s calendar, emphasizing the importance of culinary tourism to Quintana Roo’s identity.
