Juan de la Cruz Noh Noh's journey is a powerful testament to perseverance, deep respect for the land, and the transformative power of hard work. Born in Kanxoc, Valladolid, Juan relocated to the community of Francisco May in the Isla Mujeres municipality, armed only with the bare essentials for survival. His first job was clearing land, but through dedication and effort, he has built a thriving cattle ranch that stands as a symbol of his commitment and sacrifice.

Juan was one of several cattle ranchers from Francisco May who requested membership in the Isla Mujeres Cattle Ranchers Association. After being accepted, he shared his personal history and the challenges facing this vital sector. When he first arrived in Francisco May, the community was underdeveloped, lacking basic services and accessible roads. Despite these challenges, Juan remained undeterred, focusing on agriculture to support his family. He grew a variety of crops including beans, espelón, squash, corn, jicama, and sweet potatoes.

With a clear vision and unwavering belief in his work, Juan gradually transitioned his land to support livestock. Starting with a single Brahma cow, he expanded his herd over the years to include Charolais and Beefmaster breeds, improving both the quality and quantity of his livestock. Despite financial struggles and a lack of government support, Juan, with the assistance of his sons, has managed to grow his ranch.

Maintaining the herd, particularly during droughts, is a significant challenge, with annual feeding costs sometimes exceeding 70,000 pesos. Access to government programs has also been a hurdle due to initial lack of documentation for his land. However, with the advent of satellite internet, Juan and his sons have been able to secure official support.

Today, Juan's herd numbers close to 100, although he recently had to sell 15 to cover maintenance costs. His production has improved through the use of fertilizer and seed programs, strengthening his economic position and ensuring his family's livelihood. He has also implemented improved grazing techniques, irrigation systems, and optimal feeding practices, increasing the productivity of his ranch.

Juan's story is a plea to authorities to recognize the needs of farming communities like Francisco May. Despite limited resources and infrastructure, his determination has made him a local leader in livestock farming. More than his material success, Juan has instilled in his children the values of hard work, honesty, and love for the countryside.

Today, this man who arrived with nothing has built a prosperous ranch through his own investment and a sustainable work model. His dream is to see his livestock flourish, improve his community's quality of life, and secure a prosperous future for the next generation of farmers. Juan de la Cruz Noh Noh's life is a powerful reminder that passion, effort, and perseverance can overcome any adversity. His story is an inspiring example of how dedication to the land can transform not just a family, but an entire community.
