Historic Investment: Cozumel to See 64 New Projects Under Juanita Alonso’s Administration

Juanita Alonso Marrufo's administration has announced a historic investment in 64 new projects for the island of Cozumel. This unprecedented level of funding, totalling 226.1 million pesos, will be used for construction, expansion, and rehabilitation projects. The aim is to improve the urban environment and the quality of life for the island's residents.

"This administration has worked tirelessly to turn dreams into reality," said Mayor Juanita Alonso. "Cozumel is progressing, thanks to the participation and efforts of its people."

The investment will fund a range of public works. These include the installation of 55 lighting points in the Miraflores, Nueva Generación, and Altamar neighborhoods, and the rehabilitation of 66 lighting points on Rafael E. Melgar Sur Avenue. Additionally, 12.8 kilometers of sidewalks will be built in various neighborhoods, and 13.3 kilometers of bike lanes will be constructed or rehabilitated on the Juárez/Transversal Avenue stretch.

The funding will also help to address the backlog in sports facilities. The Bicentennial Sports Unit will see the rehabilitation of Froylán López's baseball field and three soccer fields. The Revolution sports unit will receive a mini soccer field, two basketball courts, a soccer field, and a unique skating ring. The Independence Sports Unit will benefit from the rehabilitation of a dome, two basketball courts, two volleyball courts, and the entire bleacher area.

In terms of educational infrastructure, the "Gonzalo de J. Rosado Iturralde" Public Library will be rehabilitated, and five school roofs will be constructed at various schools across the island.

The investment will also be used to improve local parks. The "Municipio Libre" park will be rehabilitated, a pet area will be set up in Quintana Roo park, and improvements will be made to several other parks. New parks will also be built in the "El Encanto" neighborhood and in the Félix González Canto subdivision.

Finally, fourteen police booths will be rehabilitated in various neighborhoods and a new one will be built in the Félix González Canto subdivision. The Cozumel Public Safety Department building will also be rehabilitated.

In summary, this historic investment will significantly improve the infrastructure and quality of life on the island of Cozumel.
