The Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) has given the green light to the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for a new tourism center in the Riviera Maya. The State Riviera Maya Development, backed by Marina Vallarta, will span approximately 440 hectares within the municipality of Solidaridad, Quintana Roo. The project aims to extend the master plan of the Vidanta resort, focusing on entertainment and accommodation services. This approval is set to diversify the Riviera Maya's tourism offerings, which currently boasts around 57,000 hotel rooms, and generate direct jobs during its construction and operation.

The approved technical document reveals that the complex will feature a variety of attractions. These include amusement rides, restaurants, a market in the style of a fair, outdoor recreational activities, and areas that blend with the natural environment for visitor enjoyment. The infrastructure will be linked via walkways and roads made from eco-friendly concrete. The project, which will be located north of Playa del Carmen, near the border with the municipality of Puerto Morelos, has been granted a 10-year implementation permit. It's also worth noting that the renowned Cirque du Soleil Joya theater is located in the same area.

The Riviera Maya development is part of the Vidanta group's strategy to attract a larger client base and establish itself as a leader in Mexico's luxury tourism and entertainment sector. Vidanta is also currently constructing an ambitious theme park in Riviera Nayarit, in collaboration with international entertainment brands such as Cirque du Soleil. This park promises to deliver immersive experiences with unique attractions, world-class shows, and recreational spaces that blend nature with advanced technology. Vidanta's aim is to redefine Mexico's tourism offerings, appealing to both domestic and international tourists seeking comprehensive experiences that combine luxury, adventure, and culture.

The Riviera Maya development could potentially follow a similar model to that of Riviera Nayarit, transforming into a theme park within the hotel complex. This would further solidify the Vidanta group's dedication to entertainment tourism.
